Modulation of the functioning of several neurotransmitters by gonadal hormones such as estrogen and progesterone are thought to contribute to femalesnull enhanced vulnerability to mood disorders. We evaluated the effects of hormones on the functioning of the 5-HT3 and D2 receptors (both of which are involved in mood disorders), using the forced swim test (FST).
