    Abstract
Classification: Furnishing, Bedding, Quilt. Materials and Techniques: Rayon and velvet; pieced, embroidered and quilted. Physical Description: This crazy quilt is composed of sixteen blocks made with rayon, velvet prints and solid fabric. There is feather stitches embroidered over the seams. The back is solid purple rayon. The back is quilted with a large flower in the center with a checkered and tulip pattern surrounding it. Some of the quilting stitching is visible on the crazy quilt side. There is purple rayon, the same as the backing fabric in a ruffled border. Exhibition History: Rothman Gallery, Fall 1993, Spring 1997, Fall 1999. Collection or Donor: Collections or Donor: From the Robert L. Schaeffer Jr. Collection donated to the college in 1987. It is said that Schaeffer, an avid collector of American folk art, often crossed paths with the Duponts. The collection largely represents a narrow geographic region consisting of Pennsylvania German objects and was accumulated over four decades. Schaeffer’s grandfather served on F&M’s Board of Trustees. This crazy quilt was made by Carrie Schaeffer, Robert Schaeffernulls aunt.
