Classification: Buildings Furnishings, Bedding, Quilt. Materials and Techniques: Cotton Fabric, Hand Appliqué, Hand-Quilted. Style/Period/ or Movement: Album Quilts Physical Description: Various cotton fabrics, both solids and prints were used to create the floral motifs. Each of the 30 panels has a different pattern. The grape and cherry panels were made with trapunto quilting or padded quilting. In these two examples, contrasting threads were used to emphasize the very good workmanship. All of the motifs have been appliquéd onto a medium tan print background. The border has 3 stripes; the inner is a rust calico, the middle is the same tan; the outter is a solid dark green. The backing fabric is the same green as the border. The quilting follows the floral pattern in the main portion of the quilt. The rust and the green borders contain a chain quilting pattern. The tan border is quilted in a diagonal grid. Exhibition History: Peoplenulls Place Quilt Museum, November 10, 1995-January 31, 1996. Rothman Gallery, Phillips Museum of Art: Fall 1994, Fall 1997, Fall 1999. Dana Room, Phillips Museum-"Pennsylvania Treasures" March 29-April 13, 1989. Collection or Donor: From the Robert L. The collection largely represents a narrow geographic region consisting of Pennsylvania German objects and was accumulated over four decades.
