This concert performance was my and Claire’s senior project, in which I conducted Prokofiev’s Classical Symphony and Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake Suite with the exception of the 8th movement. This is a cumulative performance of a semester of analytical work and score preparation, along with an intense summer study abroad program dedicated to conducting. This project included not only hiring musicians, but also rehearsal planning. Due to a shortage of rehearsal time, I focused on dynamics and rhythmic coherency opposed to grander phrasing and interpretive gesture. Also, for the performance works, it was more appropriate to take consistent tempos due to the context in which they were written.
