The LHCb detector measures particle showers from proton-proton collisions at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN). Measurements from multiple components of the detector are combined to calculate the mass of a particle. An investigation using well-known particles reveals biased mass values calculated by the detector. The bias impacts the work of hundreds of physicists in the LHCb collaboration. This summer we implemented a mathematical procedure to identify and remove the bias by adjusting the individual decay product momenta. The correction procedure is insufficient to remove the bias and requires a revised procedure with additional degrees of freedom. This project was made possible by funding from F&M's Hackman Summer Scholars Program.
